Find your way back to yourself.

Virtual therapy for adults in Illinois seeking to understand their story, release old patterns, and build safe relationships.

welcome

Find Your Way Back to Yourself

You’ve spent years keeping it together — showing up for everyone else, pushing through the hard days, pretending “fine” was good enough. But lately, it’s harder to ignore the exhaustion underneath.
Maybe you feel anxious for no clear reason, disconnected from yourself, or caught in the same relationship patterns you promised you’d never repeat.

Therapy can help you understand where those patterns came from — and how to finally feel at home in your own skin.

hello there

Hi, I’m Kate Loewenstein, LCSW — a relational therapist based in Chicago.

I help adults untangle the lasting effects of complex trauma and painful relationship dynamics. My approach is warm, genuine, and active — I’m not a silent observer. I offer reflection, perspective, and at times, humor, so our sessions feel like an authentic conversation.

For me, the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for change. When you feel safe and seen, you can begin to see yourself differently too.

I’m Kate.

Relational Issues

I work with adults — especially adult children of emotionally immature parents — to understand repeating patterns in love and family, and to build relationships that finally feel mutual and secure.

Complex Trauma & Emotional Neglect

I help adults heal the invisible wounds left by emotional neglect, criticism, or inconsistency — learning to feel safe, worthy, and connected to themselves again.

Anxiety & Depression

Together, we’ll explore what’s beneath the overwhelm and self-doubt, helping you quiet your mind, rediscover energy, and feel more grounded day to day.

Why Loewenstein Counseling?

There are many therapists who talk about trauma and relationships — but what makes the work here different is how we do it.

Relational, not clinical.
You won’t find a blank screen or a detached expert here. Therapy with me is an active, two-way conversation. I show up as a real person — warm, curious, and honest — because authentic connection is where healing begins.

Depth over quick fixes.
We go beyond symptom management to understand what’s underneath. Together, we’ll uncover patterns that began as survival strategies and learn how to create lasting change from the inside out.

Trauma-informed, attachment-focused.
Every part of you — even the ones that feel messy or “too much” — developed for a reason. My role is to help you approach those parts with compassion and curiosity, not judgment.

Rooted in experience.
With over 20 years in the field and ongoing trauma consultation work, I bring both professional depth and personal presence to every session. You’ll feel supported, understood, and genuinely cared for — not just analyzed.

Therapy at Loewenstein Counseling isn’t about fixing you. It’s about helping you trust yourself again.
